Warrick does make some compelling points. There is no law that says baking cannot be savory.

Comments:

Food science? In my Sci-Fi story? Wow, this really is the future. That, and the fact that most savory-sweet baking recipes have fell into the dumpster of obscurity.

The problem with adventurous flavours like that is that they were not impactful enough. For instance, most ketchup cucpakes I see are just a variation of chocolate or red velvet. They don't showcase the ketchup head on. For a flavour to be ground breaking, it not only has to work, it has to memorable.

Ketchup already has salt, acid, and sweet. It wouldn't be hard to cut down on the sugar, rebalance, and add some extra flavors.

Savory cupcake... a cornbread is a cupcake if you bake it in the right pan... Cornbread cupcake with honey butter frosting... hmmm maybe I add some stuff to my grocery list

Muffins can be savory??? All the muffin recipes I've used have been sweet! I've been tricked!

7th Jan 2022, 1:13 PM

Yeah. I've heard of ham and cheese muffins.

Corned beef and cabbage cupcakes ?

10th Jan 2022, 2:18 PM

Uh, too adventurous for me.

10th Jan 2022, 3:48 PM

For some reason I am thinking of chocolate and ketchup

11th Jan 2022, 1:47 AM

That is the version of ketchup cupcake I found online.
