Recipes - Red (or Blue) Velvet Cake

Red (or Blue) Velvet Cake

I figure this type of cake would be popular as a gender reveal cake for baby showers if you're into gender reveals. Plus, I figure, if something is going to be red why not have it TASTE red? I also noticed that for blue foods, raspberry is a popular flavor for them. Word of advice for red velvet cake; either use cream cheese or white chocolate buttercream or don't put nothing on. No other buttercream will do.

If you have a recipe to share, let me know through social media or a private message and I will make a recipe card for it here on the site and feature it.

Yeah, I thought of doing that too, but I felt gender reveal would be more fun since baby showers require cake.

No, you can't have a baby shower without cake. That's like having Christmas without cookies.

And you are right about the cream cheese and white chocolate buttercream. I have made many a cake in my day and no other type of buttercream works.

Oh yes. Cream cheese is my favourite with red velvet.

Sour milk? As in actual sour milk? I just started baking... lol

Sour milk is what milk becomes when you add vinegar to it then let it stand for a bit. It is 1 cup of milk per 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
